Fort Capital LP Working With Federal Law Enforcement After Online Attacks

Company report of apparent extortion attempt has prompted FBI investigation

Aug. 22, 2024 (Fort Worth, TX)—Fort Capital LP, a Texas-based real estate investment firm, today announced that it has notified federal law enforcement officials of what it believes is a scheme to extort money from the company.

“Nothing is more important to Fort Capital than our reputation and the stewardship of funds entrusted to our firm by investors,” Chris Powers, founder and CEO of Fort Capital said. “We are grateful that the U.S. Attorney and the FBI have opened a criminal investigation into what we believe is an extortion scheme based on false claims about our company, and threats against our reputation and personnel.”

Fort Capital is a privately owned real estate investment firm based in Fort Worth, TX.  It has conducted $2.1B in total asset transactions, primarily relating to light-industrial buildings, in Texas, Florida, and Tennessee. The firm’s investors in individual deals include private equity firms, family offices and high net worth individuals, which includes family and friends.

In June 2024 Fort Capital became aware of false claims about the company made by a person who identified himself as LPWhisperer on the social media platform X.  The person claimed to possess confidential information about Fort Capital and some of its investments, and then misstated information about the company.  It was determined that LPWhisperer’s real name is Jakub Kostecki, a self-described crypto expert currently living in Colorado who is wanted on a criminal conviction in Poland, where he is from originally.  In 2020, a U.S. civil court ruled in favor of victims who claimed Kostecki defrauded them in a crypto marketing scheme.

When confronted by Fort Capital, Kostecki posted additional false statements about the company, threatened to bring the false claims to specific media outlets, and offered to end his campaign upon receipt of a lump-sum cryptocurrency payment.  Fort Capital has been informed by other companies in the industry that Kostecki is currently operating similar campaigns against them.

Fort Capital has turned all of its evidence over to the FBI, and has offered to assist its investigation.  The company is working in cooperation with law enforcement to ensure that its investors are fully protected from this online scheme.  None of the funds managed by Fort Capital were at risk to the scheme.
