Vice President of Acquisitions
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a Vice President of Acquisitions to join the Fort team and adopt our entrepreneurial mindset. This person needs to thrive when running full speed to help us scale our business.
Does it frustrate you to work with leaders who don’t give you a runway? Do you tend to be able to read people and situations effectively? Will you be able to persuade people to accept change or new ideas?
If you have a habit of becoming impatient when given tedious or technical items to complete, if you enjoy working with others on a variety of different tasks, if you want to brainstorm your next greatest real estate investment idea with our team, and if you consider your personality to be contagious—let’s talk.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Source high-quality, value-add real estate opportunities across targeted asset classes, including industrial, land, office, and distressed properties that align with Fort’s growth objectives and business plan.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, property owners, institutional investors, and regional stakeholders, leveraging these connections and market expertise to expand Fort’s acquisition pipeline and generate a consistent flow of on- and off-market opportunities.
- Focus acquisition efforts on core Texas markets, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, and additional strategic markets as opportunities arise.
- Travel as needed to target markets to expand Fort’s footprint, develop relationships, and identify new opportunities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for potential sellers and partners, fostering long-term collaborations and encouraging repeat business.
- Participate in business development activities, including hosting or attending dinners, extracurricular events (e.g., golf outings), and trips to strengthen relationships with brokers and other key stakeholders.
- Cross-sell Fort’s other services, including third-party property management, creating mutually beneficial relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Establish Fort as a trusted partner through strategic relationship-building, active networking, and participation in industry events, conferences, and panels.
- Provide actionable market insights and competitive intelligence to support informed investment decisions during deal review discussions.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including Finance, Leasing, and the Executive Team, to evaluate and align opportunities with Fort’s strategic goals.
REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years of experience in business development, acquisitions, or relationship management within the real estate investment sector, with demonstrated success in sourcing on and off-market deals and unique acquisition opportunities through strong relationships.
- Expertise in industrial, land, office, and distressed asset classes, with significant knowledge of the Texas markets, including DFW, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso.
- Proven ability to build and sustain long-term relationships with various industry stakeholders, including brokers, property owners, institutional capital partners, and more.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently to target markets.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain a professional, polished presence that represents Fort’s brand, mission, and values in all external interactions.
- Strong negotiation skills, business acumen, and deal-making expertise.
